Crossing the border is possible at Ártánd, Nagylak, Nyírábrány or Csengersima (this makes it a distance of 760 kms from Budapest to Covasna). On the other side of the border, at MOL filling stations you can get good rates when exchanging Forints or Euros to Lei. (The rates are usually even better in inner Transylvania.) It is also useful to fill up with petrol at these filling stations, as the quality of the fuel is the same here as in Hungary but the price is lower. In Romania, the speed limit in settlements is 50 kms/h while 90 kms/h are allowed outside these areas. Due to the traffic situation, it is recommended to allow for an average speed of not more than 50 kms/h on the Romanian leg of the journey.
