A miner haa died in a derailment in the 1960s near Pilisszentiván village. We have visited the spot about four decades later.

Coal mining started in 1942 near Pilisszentiván (15 kms north of Budapest) and finished in 1969. Coal was transported from Jóreménység (Good trist) tunnel and István (Steve) pit to the coal-separaters building by a narrow-gauge railway (the whole map of the railway is here). There was a serious accident in the 1960s when a miner has died. We havent got more details about the accident but it is sure a derailment caused the disaster.

You can find the spot easily. An old electric pilon situated on the left. The old transmission line is signed in the old map. You can find the pilon in the old picture below this line.

Here is the spot of the accident today. A dirt road is situated on the place of the old railway line.

This curve (on the left picture) is identified easily today.
