Mesztegnyő: rails to Soponya are abandoned

SEFAG Zrt., the operator of Forestry Railway Mesztegnyő started to remove the reils of the branch line to Soponya. This 2 km long line was out of operation. Some parts were stole by thieves last years.

The line to Soponya was originally 4,7 km long. It started at the end of lake Búsvári from the main Mesztegnyő-Felsőkak line and went to the south to reach lake Soponya. There was only freight traffic on the line. The line was very nice ran in a deep forest. In the first of the 1990s the last section or the line was removed. They built a new station at km point 2 and used the rails for occassionally freight traffic till the second part of the 2000s. The station and the middle of the line was stolen. Now the operator got the permission to remove rails. The project has started in January.
